WHO ARE WE?
Matthew 16:18 - Jesus said, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” We are New Testament Christians, that is, we believe and follow the teachings of the New Testament. We do not add or take away from what the scriptures teach. We encourage any visitors to come to a worship service where they will feel welcomed. Look below under "Elements of a Worship Service" to find out what you can expect when attending.
ELEMENTS OF WORSHIP
-
Every worship service consists of singing songs of praise to the Lord as we are commanded to do. Colossians 3:16 - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." We encourage everyone to participate in the congregational singing with each song being led by a male member. Christians sing acapella style (no musical instruments). There is never any mention of using or playing musical instruments to worship God in the New Testament, so as a result we do not use them in our worship services. Ephesians 5:19 - "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord"
-
We offer many prayers throughout a worship service. A male member of the congregation leads the congregation in a prayer, while everyone else participates silently. Only one person speaks at a time during the prayer. 1 Timothy 2:8 - "I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." We pray to thank God for all the blessing we have, for the chance at eternal life, for strength in our lives, for health, for others, and anything else that is in our hearts. Prayer is our avenue to talk with our Father.”
-
Acts 2:42 - "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers." There are many example in the scriptures of teaching the word of God or "doctrine", so we follow this example in our own services. There will be a lesson given by a male member of the congregation (1 Corinthians 14:35 - “And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.” ), similar to a teacher giving a lecture to their students except there is no audience participation. The lessons are designed to increase our knowledge of the scriptures and to encourage us to become better Christians. We encourage everyone to follow along in their Bibles and to take notes. We also strongly encourage you to ask any questions you might after services have completed.

The Communion is observed during Sunday morning services. Acts 20:7 “Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.” The communion consists of ONE cup containing the "Fruit of the Vine" (grape juice) (Mark 14:23 - “Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.” ) and ONE loaf of unleavened bread. (1 Corinthians 10:17 “For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.”) The loaf and cup are passed around to each member to partake as we examine ourselves and reflect on the sacrifice that Christ made for us. 1 Corinthians 11:28 “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” Visitors are not expected to participate.

We have a collection every Sunday morning worship service as we are commanded to do. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” A basket will be passed around and each person gives a portion of what they have earned. 2 Corinthians 8:12 “For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.”
